Christine Hagy

Chris Brennan Hagy is a Suzuki violin teacher with an active private studio in Wyndmoor, Pennslyvania. She is married to Bruce Hagy and is the mother of Tegan, Shea and Brennan.
Chris began her study of the violin with Linda Wear Fiore along with her young daughter, Tegan in 1980. Encouraged by Linda, Chris completed her Suzuki Violin Level 1A and 1B study and observation with her in 1982-83 at Linda’s home studio in Pennsylvania.
Chris has continued her violin studies over the years most recently as a student of Romanian born Dolly Koritzer. Chris has continued her life- long learning by attending many violin workshops with a variety of instructors including Shinichi Suzuki, David and Terri Einfeldt, Helen Brunner, Rhonda Cole, Ed Sprunger, Terry Durbin, Linda Case, Linda Wear Fiore, Carrie Reuning-Hummel, Michele George and James Hutchins. Chris also studied Suzuki Piano Level 1 with Joan Krzywicki.
Chris is a longstanding member of the Greater Philadelphia Suzuki Association, a local affiliate of the SAA. She has served on the board of the GPSA and held the Co-President position alongside both Keitha Herron and Sue Bakshi. Chris has been a member of the faculty at summer Suzuki Institutes for many years including, The Pennsylvania Suzuki String Institute and “The More Than Music” Suzuki Summer Institute in Kingston, Ontario.
Chris began playing Irish traditional fiddle in 1985. She began her study of the fiddle with John Kelly of Philadelphia. Chris has been influenced by the teaching of John Brennan, Ed Keeney, Brian Conway, Liz Carroll, James Kelly, John Carty and other leading traditional Irish fiddlers. She played for years with the Philadelphia Ceili Band at the Commodore Barry Club in Philadelphia and also with the S.P.U.D.S. (Summit Pick Up Dance Society) for Contra dances.
Chris has performed professionally at various private and public venues in the Philadelphia Tri State area. She had helped to teach youth performers (aka The Next Generation) for the past 25 years. The Next Generation have been featured performers at the NJ Folk Festival, The Philadelphia Ceili Group’s Irish Festival as well as at the NJ Discovery Museum. A longtime fixture at Philadelphia Area Irish music sessions including hosting the session at the Mermaid Inn. In 1996 she released a CD entitled Live at the Mermaid, Chris Brennan Hagy & Friends.
